Defensive back Jahsen Wint has become the 18th commitment in Ohio State's 2016 recruiting when he took to Twitter to announce his commitment on the evening of Saturday, January 2nd.

“Basically, I just needed the time to look at my other opportunities and see the schools. I was waiting for my coach to tell me to pull the trigger, because my coach is big in my recruitment," Wint said. "I had him look at the pros and the cons of each school and believe it or not, the school that was best for me was Ohio State."

One of the biggest positives to selecting Ohio State for Wint was the opportunity that he'll have for early playing time. Wint is expected to play the safety position, and the departure of Vonn Bell and possibly Tyvis Powell as well clears plenty of room for the young prospect.

“They’ve got a few guys going to the NFL from my position, which will be safety. That safety position is open there and gives me a chance to start with a great program. I don’t want anything given to me, so I’ve just got to work hard," Wint said.

Wint is only a two-star prospect out of Brooklyn (N.Y.), but holds offers from powerhouse programs like Ohio State, Penn State, Rutgers, and Boston College. He is expected to play safety at Ohio State and ranks as one of the top ten players in the state of New York.

Wint hails from the same high school as current Buckeye running back/H-back Curtis Samuel, Erasmus Hall, who he spoke about his commitment with before making the announcement.

“Yeah, I talked with Curtis already," Wint said. "He said to me ‘Do you truly want to come here?’ I said yes. He said ‘Do you believe you can play here?’ I said yes. He just said ‘I’ll see you when you get here.’”

Wint will also have the opportunity to begin working with a new safeties coach at Ohio State right from the jump in Greg Schiano. Schiano is the new defensive coordinator and secondary coach at Ohio State, replacing the departed Chris Ash.

“I’ve spoken with coach Schiano a couple of times. He’s a great guy, so me and him coming in at the same time is great for me to get coached up by a great coach. It’s going to be a good experience and a great four years.”

Wint is well-known in New York high school football for his incredible physicality on the football field and his punishing style of play. He'll bring all of that and more to Ohio State and has a message for the Buckeye faithful.

“Basically, I’ve got a 110-percent work ethic. I’m going to give it my all. And you know, you’re going to see me bring that hammer.”
