Williamson settling in at IMG

Ohio State commit Marcus Williamson made a big decision this winter, opting to transfer from Westerville South High School just outside of Columbus to attend IMG Academy in Florida.

ORLANDO - After missing virtually all of camp season last year due to injury, Ohio State defensive back commit Marcus Williamson has been as active as any prospect out there this winter. The latest event the 5-foot-10, 180-pound prospect impressed at was the Rivals Camp stop in Orlando on Saturday. Williamson was named one of the top performers on defense.

"I think I did pretty good," said Williamson after the camp. "The coaches had a lot of praise for me so that felt good. The last 12 months I've been battling some injuries and I'm feeling healthy now and it's nice to start seeing the fruits of my labor."

Williamson had a good day leading the drills in his group and also making plays during 1-on-1's. He also recorded the third fastest time in the Illspeed event which showcases reaction skills, agility, and burst. Williamson and the other top four participants will compete in the finals in Baltimore in April.

"It wasn't like anything I've ever done before so it was pretty fun," he said. "It was a different kind of testing so it was nice to bring some hardware home and get a trip to Baltimore."

The transfer to IMG Academy in Florida this winter has only helped Williamson hit the ground running during this camp season. The workouts aren't easy, but Williamson sees the purpose of it.

"It's been great," he said. "I've been working hard, I can't say anything bad about it. I'm happy with the decision I made. I'm not going to lie, the workouts have been rough, but it's all about preparation (for college)."

Williamson has been rooming with another future Buckeye in Isaiah Pryor, but there could be more IMG prospects turning their attention towards Columbus.

"I've been working on (Josh) Kaindoh and (Rob) Hainsey," he said. "I think Ohio State speaks for itself, just need to get them to visit. I know Rob is coming up in the spring, I'm not sure yet about Kaindoh, we'll see where it goes."
