Victor shares memories of his recruitment

Wide receiver Binjimen Victor had plenty of options on the table in terms of recruiting and picked the Buckeyes near the end of the process. We stopped by his school on Monday to talk about his recruitment and what is next.

COCONUT CREEK, Fla. – While many recruiting fans have turned their attention to the class of 2017 the class of 2016 still has several more months before they enroll at their college destinations and really start their college careers in earnest. While the Buckeyes had seven players enroll early and that are on campus now, there are more than a dozen players that did not go that route and will not report until June 8th to being their journey.

One of those players is wide receiver Binjimen Victor out of Coconut Creek (Fla.) high school. The tall wide receiver joined the Buckeyes on a memorable day for Ohio State, a day that saw two four stars and a five star all commit within a couple hours of one another. But we will have more on that later.

Victor was never really vocal during his recruitment and did not do a lot of interviews and draw much attention in terms of press. But his on the field actions spoke loudly as he held offers from many of the top programs in the region and beyond before picking the Buckeyes over other presumed finalists like Tennessee, Florida and West Virginia.

We caught up with Victor on Monday at his high school to relive some of his recruiting moments.

First and foremost, Victor admitted that he felt blessed to be able to go through the process but also feels blessed that it is now over and he can focus on finishing up school and getting ready for college.

"Life is kind of different now that the recruitment process is over with," Victor told BuckeyeGrove.com "You don't have to think about all of the schools that are recruiting you. High school football is done and now it is time to think about bigger and better things and going off to the next level."

Every player has to come to their own decision on their own but it certainly does not hurt to surround yourself with talent and Victor did that in joining the nation's No. 3 recruiting class and committing on the same day as five-star linebacker KeAndre Jones and four-star quarterback Dwayne Haskins Jr.

How exactly did that plan come about?

"I knew that I was going to commit that day and Dwayne hit me up and said that he was going to to do it the same day because he felt like that was where he needed to be,' Victor said. "So I was like, 'Alright, we might as well do it the same day' and that is what we did."

The Buckeyes have been looking for a big receiver for some time now and Victor fits that mold. What was it that put Ohio State over the top?

"I felt a great vibe when I went up there. I went up there a couple of times and I just liked the atmosphere, the coaching, coach Zach (Smith), I feel like being on his arm and on coach (Urban) Meyer's arm that I feel they will develop me right," Victor said. "I will have a successful (career) up there and that was the right place for me."

Of course Victor had great relationships at other schools as well, but could only pick one school and that created the most difficult part of the process, telling the other schools 'No'.

"That is the hardest thing, telling them no and that you picked another school," Victor said. "But you know, it is just like a business and you have got to go where you feel comfortable and feel like you will be successful."
