Muhammad being courted by everyone

MISSOURI CITY, Texas - Out in the Southwest suburb of Houston (TX) in Missouri City is class of 2018 tight end Mustapha Muhammad. The 6-foot-5, 225-pound prospect has already amassed 24 scholarship offers and has people wondering if he is the high school tight end in the nation right now, regardless of class.

Ohio State is one of those early offers with Ohio State head coach Urban Meyer personally offering the Rivals100 prospect. BuckeyeGrove.com sat down with Muhammad on Monday morning to go in-depth with the rising star.

"It was really cool, talking to Urban Meyer on the phone," Muhammad said. "He's a really great coach and he's a lot of success at different schools. It's just a blessing to receive an offer from The Ohio State."

Ohio State has put a tight end into the NFL in each of the past two drafts with Jeff Heuerman going in 2015 and Nick Vannett most recently in 2016. That hasn't been lost on Muhammad.

"I know that they put a tight end into the league this year among the many other players they had drafted," he said. "At Ohio State, the offense they run, they do utilize the tight end, so I like their offense."

Part of Muhammad's intrigue for the college coaches is the athleticism that has been molded by his basketball background. Several former basketball players have went on to the NFL to play as tight ends. Muhammad is his own player but does have a few favorites that he likes to watch.

"My favorite tight end is Jimmy Graham," Muhammad explained. "He's had some injuries so I've started watching Greg Olson and I like watching O.J. Howard at Alabama."
