Grimes does not appear to be fading on Buckeyes

Despite having the No. 1 recruiting class for the 2017 cycle, Ohio State fans still worry about the status of St. Thomas Aquinas WR Trevon Grimes. We made our way down to Fort Lauderdale for part of our EXCLUSIVE Southern Swing to talk to Grimes in person. If you are an Ohio State fan, you are going to like what you hear.

FORT LAUDERDALE – The Buckeyes have been recruiting St. Thomas Aquinas wide receiver Trevon Grimes for a long time and in turn the Buckeyes have been the leader for the big wide receiver for a long time as well.

But here was are just a few months before the start of Grimes' senior season and the five-star wideout is not committed to Ohio State, or anyone else for that matter.

Is all the talk about Ohio State being a leader a smokescreen or has the timing not been right as of yet for Grimes to 'pull the trigger' for Ohio State?

We made our way down to Grimes' school on Thursday to catch the big receiver in action and talk to him after his day of work to see where things stand.

One thing that everyone knows, the Buckeyes will be on his campus in June as Urban Meyer and his staff will be part of a satellite camp at St. Thomas Aquinas. And you better believe that Grimes wants to look good at this camp.

In a strange turn of events however, Grimes was looking to make a long awaited trip to Ohio State in the same time frame that the camp falls. What does that mean for his plans and this trip to Columbus?

"I just found out about this satellite camp like three days ago," Grimes said. "But before I was going to visit Ohio State second week of June, me and my family were planning a trip up. That is before I found out about this camp. So what I am going to do is going to come to this camp and perform and whatnot."

"And after the camp, probably about a week after, we are going to rearrange the trip a week after the camp. Go up and visit the campus, visit the school and talk to the coaches and just visit the school once again."

It has been widely believed that one more trip to Columbus may be all that it takes to put the Buckeyes over the top and end this recruitment and potentially give Ohio State its third five-star of the class of 2017. What is Grimes looking for when he takes that trip?

"I have been up there one time, that was my freshman year," Grimes said. "So that was a while back ago. Once again the atmosphere, the coaches, the players, good feedback from all the players. That is about it. I have done enough research that I already have a pretty good picture painted in my head about Ohio State. That is why they have been my leader since I was a freshman. So, I am pretty confident about what I think about the school, just some reassurance."

In the time that Grimes has not made a trip to Ohio State, he has taken trips to other schools and Ohio State fans have gone to message boards to worry that their lead with the talented 2017 may be slipping. Grimes gave a simple statement that should put fears at ease.

"They are in the lead enough to where they shouldn't have any worries," Grimes said. "I will put it that way."

So Grimes could be on 'commit watch' while he is in Columbus. He does not have a formal plan as to when he will commit. It could come then, or it could not. While he does not want to tip his hand as to where things may stand, he does know what is important when it comes to making this decision.

"I have been talking with my mom and dad and I think I am going to commit when it feels the most comfortable for me," Grimes said. "Whether if that is if I go up there and I just want to pull the trigger with them… it just doesn't matter, I am not sure when I want to commit but one of my biggest factors in committing is making sure that my mom and dad and my family is comfortable with it. I am not going to do it until we are all on the same page and we are all comfortable with the decision."
