Catching up with Brendon White

Living just 20 minutes north of campus, Ohio State pledge Brendon White has been no stranger around the Woody Hayes Athletic Center this off-season. The Powell (Ohio) Olentangy Liberty product made it to a few practices recently and is taking every opportunity to continue building relationships with the rest of his classmates.

"I've been over to a couple of practices," said White. "Last Tuesday I met up with Marcus Williamson and we talked a lot. I've been talking to Antjuan Simmons a lot lately over text, talking to Tate Martell, trying to get him to commit, so I've been around campus a lot."

During White's time at practice he has been impressed with the intensity and one freshman in particular has caught his eye.

"Austin Mack, the freshman, he's a good role model," he said. "He got his black stripe off so he's out there ballin'. Just the atmosphere there, the intensity, it's really good."

Having now been committed for several months, White has had a chance to reflect on what lies ahead for him. The legacy prospect has dreamed of playing for Ohio State since he was very young and his time is coming in just one more year.

"Every time I go to practice, it's just like, 'wow'," he said. "I know that one day I'm going to be in those shoes and it's a true blessing. I'm just trying to work out every day and get better."

But first, White is working towards putting forth the best senior season possible. The Darron Lee comparisons have been thrown out there for White because of his versatility and he'll have one more thing in common with Lee this fall as he makes a position change on offense.

"I'm actually going to play quarterback this year," he said. "I'm in the film room with our coach on Tuesday's and Thursday's and I'm throwing whenever I can. I'm trying to learn the offense as much as I can. If I play defense at Ohio State, hopefully playing quarterback my senior year of high school will help with that."

White is also finding time to put his recruiting hat on. Class of 2018 star Jaelen Gill has been a friend of White's for a while now and has been White's main target in recent months.

"I'm working on Jaelen Gill," White said. "He comes over a lot. Me and him are like best buds, so hopefully he will come to Ohio State and we can be roommates when he gets there."

White will take part in Saturday's Rivals Camp Series stop in Columbus.
